In the transformation project awared by WirtschaftsWoche, Infront Consulting supports the worlwide listed Tier 1 automotive supplier ElringKlinger AG on its way from a supplier for vehicles with internal combustion enginges to a system provider for sustainable mobility.

Situation | A profound business transformation towards electro mobility and hydrogen

• The shift of the portfolio towards electromobility and hydrogen as well as the upcoming migration to SAP S/4Hana requires a profound change in business operations and management of the growing complexity that the new system solutions entail.
• From the very beginning, the management of the company was firmly convinced that employees and digitalization are the decisive levers of success in actively shaping the transformative changes and increase competitiveness.
• Well-known transformation approaches – such as multi-project programs or ERP-centric transformation – are clearly unsuitable due to the company-wide impact, complexity and pressure for change.

 Solution approach | A tailored transformation path with close integration of business and IT 

• With Infront, a platform-based approach was developed and implemented. The basic idea: Digital business platforms offer a future-proof business process and system landscape set up as a product, and enable their continuous further development, with which economically beneficial potential is being raised.
• A consistent digital corporate architecture makes it possible to map modern technology applications (e.g. digital twins in production, artificial intelligence) and market requirements (e.g. corporate sustainability) as well as providing employees at all levels with real-time information and user-centric tools.
• To centrally coordinate and speed up the process, the role of the Digital Transformation Officer alongside a separate network organization had been created, for digital transformation to enable Group-wide networking of business, operations and IT.

• For the first time, the complexity of a globally operating company has been mapped across the entire corporate architecture, aggregated on meaningful and consistent digital business platforms and made permanently manageable and optimizable by a permanent platform operating model.
• The great respect for coping with the digital transformation and the complex S/4 migration has given way to lasting positive spirit of change, in which IT assumes the role of the accelerator and shaper of the future, thanks to the innovative approach combined with a tailor-made change program.
